Essentials & Fundamentals Classes
To give the Essentials and Fundamentals Geography/Health students an opportunity to experience healthy foods from around the world by researching, shopping, cooking and ultimately creating a cookbook, which will be shared with ELS Home Economics classes.

Literary Festival
The Literary Festival was created with the support of the D113 Foundation, and continued support enables this event to expand and evolve. Workshops conducted by a wide range of writers and made available to all DHS students enable students to get direction and feedback for projects they begin in these work sessions. Post grant evaluation (PDF)

Active Express Response System
To fund the purchase of a set of student response systems for use in science department classrooms. The goal is to create an inclusive environment that allows all students to participate in an interactive way during lessons. Post grant evaluation (PDF)

Mock Trial Team
To help fund the Mock Trial Team, which participates in regional tournaments, other competitions, and hosts speakers. This group provides education about the justice system, as well as helping develop skills in persuasive public speaking and writing, team building, leadership, critical thinking, improvisation and perseverance. Post grant evaluation (PDF)

Homework Club

This program provides a structured location and time for students to work and receive support on their homework.  Staff tutors are employed in the core academic areas. Post grant evaluation (PDF).

Counseling for At-Risk Students
To build a systemic program that will tackle issues faced by at-risk students by providing support in the areas of school identity, career & post high school opportunities, college planning & leadership, and transitional skills, in order to prepare students for their future after high school. Computers & Scanners for Photography Class

ADL Names Program
To support the ongoing funding needs for the ADL Names program, which provides a safe forum to raise awareness of prejudice, racism, & bigotry, teach students about bullying, and to provide students with leadership skills necessary to create change. Post grant evaluation (PDF)

HP^3 – Soul, Salsa, Spirit
To fund the current and continually increasing demand for HP^3 programs which further the district’s racial equality goals.  This ongoing conversation about race, which includes minority & non-minority students, provides an opportunity for students and staff to talk about issues related to race in a safe environment.  All participants work towards building bridges across different cultures and races. Focus on the Arts
To support the multi-cultural, multi-disciplinary, educational celebration of the arts. This biennial arts festival of over 200 professional artists includes visual, performing and communication arts and is attended by students and community members. Post grant evaluation (PDF)

Giants Performing Arts Club
To provide students with special needs an opportunity to participate in acting, art projects, music therapy in an environment that supports creativity and building social skills. Post grant evaluation (PDF)
