Furniture for the Support Group Room

Post Prom Committee
Funding for an all-night, substance free event designed to insure the safety and well being of students on prom night.  The party is to be held at DHS beginning at midnight and run until 5:00 am.  Function is open to all DHS seniors, whether or not they attend the prom, and includes prom dates.  The evening will include games, sports, dancing, food, raffle prizes and entertainment.  DHS seniors will be included in the planning of the event. One Book, One Zip Code Program
Funding to help create a “One Book” program for the Deerfield High School attendance area.  One title is to be selected that all community members are encouraged to read, discuss, and participate in activities together.  The goals of the program are to build community, promote a love of literature, and provide opportunities for multigenerational interaction. Freshman Physics Sound Unit

To fund a Cinco de Mayo Celebration at DHS for grade school students hosted by Service Learning Program Seniors who work with these students in their classrooms throughout the year.  These funds replace those previously provided through a federally funded Foreign Language Assistance Program grant. Outdoor Display Case:AP Environmental Sciences &
The Education Life Skills Program’s Prairie Garden

Funds to purchase a display case for the joint Prairie Garden projects between the AP Environmental Sciences students and students in the Education and Life Skills classes.  By displaying these joint projects to community members who visit the prairie gardens they will help educate the community about how prairies function, and why endangered prairie plants should be saved from extinction. WERCS: Writer’s Worshops
To provide funds for Writing English Resource Center Services (WERCS) to host several writers’ workshops featuring nationally and regionally recognized authors and poets.  These workshops will offer students the opportunity to meet with authors and poets to discuss their writing and work directly with students to develop their creative and analytical writing skills. To help fund the DHS Warrior Robotics team, which participates in international robotics competitions sponsored by For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology (FIRST).  The aim of FIRST is to teach students, from elementary school to high school, about engineering in a fun and competitive environment.Post grant evaluation (PDF)

North Shore Academy of NSSED Meal Preparation for PADS Transition
Housing Homeless Shelter
To supplement funding for North Suburban Special Education District (NSSED) initiative to cook meals for homeless women in PADS Transition Housing. These special needs students manage all aspects of budgeting, shopping, and meal preparation, which teaches them life skills in addition to providing a service to community members in need. Redesign & Transform the Student Courtyard
To help fund the efforts of multiple groups of students to redesign and rebuild the cafeteria courtyard into a learning and recreation space for students and faculty.  Students will learn about the dynamics of community action and collaboration, problem solving and “green design” in the geometry and environmental science classes, and concepts of area and similarity for designing the ground coverage of the courtyard space using CAD programming in the architecture computer lab.
